Ever since my childhood I have been fascinated by
jewelry, and actually making jewelry has been an active hobby of
mine for over 20 years. Maybe it has something to do with the fact
that I’m the only girl and the baby of five kids, or maybe it was my
mother’s impeccable attention to detail. However this passion came
about, I was hooked. Beads, bobbles, you name it…the prettier the
better and the more the better.
While the pottery business
was going strong I began to receive requests from friends to make
custom jewelry items. In a few years, I guess, by word of mouth and
compliments, the number of requests grew; soon I realized that
designing jewelry was what I wanted as my career, while keeping my
love for clay as my secondary focus. For the past seven years I have
dedicated myself to making this dream come true. It has been a very
slow and cautious process, allowing wonderful events to unfold
naturally. My designs continue to evolve, as does my knowledge of
beads, materials, technique, and function. Custom work is my
favorite. I love working one on one with someone and designing a
custom piece that’s just the right length and style for their
personality. These special orders help me get out of the “design
box” and forces me to really stretch my imagination, ultimately
keeping the work creative and fun.
All of my pieces are one
of a kind. Similarities and continuity are evident among my main
styles, but I tend to work in series, making each piece slightly
different than the last--with an extra touch here and there. I
purchase many beads in a limited quantity, so many of the design
series are limited editions, contingent on whether or not I can find
the same beads again.
I use only sterling silver wire, clasps,
ear hooks, chains, logo tags, and crimps; my beads are cultured
freshwater pearls, semi- precious stones, Swavorski crystal, Hill
Tribe Thai silver and Indian silver beads.
I sell my
jewelry via online orders, special orders, from my home studio in
Asheville (by appointment only), at Bi-annual studio/home sales, and
across the country through “Trunk Sales.” My “Trunk Sales” are
invitation-based jewelry parties hosted by friends or clients. They
are informal, intimate, small-scale social events featuring a large
selection of my current jewelry designs. During the sale I am
available to discuss special order options and designs as well as
alter pieces to fit each client’s need.
