All of my teapots feature sterling-silver wire handles with beaded accents. The handles themselves are made of clay using a printmaking brayer tool and then fired. I assemble the handles of the teapots with the jeweler's quality sterling-silver wire utilizing a jewelry technique called wire wrapping. Your teapot wire, if used and washed in dish washing soaps and warm water, should not tarnish. In addition, sterling silver is sturdy, malleable, and heat resistant. Having worked with sterling-silver wire for many years as a hobby, I have developed a great appreciation for its artistic value. For me, the intimate feeling of serving tea to friends and guests gives tea parties and tea services an almost sacred quality. When designing my teapots, I use wire and beads to emphasize the precious nature of the tea ceremony. I also respond to the gestural qualities of wire wrapping and believe that wire acts as a wonderful complement to the form and gestural qualities of my pots. Care of Your Teapot Do not use in a dishwasher or microwave. Hand wash with warm water and soap. Allow to drip dry. If you use your teapot heavily, the inside may stain slightly--use a "denture cleaning tablet" to remove stains. Simply place the tablet in the pot with water and allow to sit for a bit. (This trick works on just about every surface!) All lids are "keyed" with black dots on the lid and the pot because each lid is made especially for its pot and tends to have a unique fit. Remember, the wire is malleable and can be re-bent or worked into place. Enjoy! |
